Summer Cultural Exchange 2008
June 27 - August 2, 2008

Atlanta, Georgia, USA
The 2008 Summer Cultural Exchange offers students an exciting combination of educational, cultural, and social activities as follows:
Advanced Academic English for Science: To help students develop the highest level English language skills, authentic field-specific experience, and an understanding of U.S. university culture, students will participate in daily classes in Advanced Listening/Speaking and Advanced Academic Writing. These classes are taught by experienced instructors and are built around skills students will need for graduate study or professional activity in their fields. Activities include observations of classes or labs in related disciplines, visits to health sciences facilities, and other opportunities to interact within professional and academic communities. Students will prepare individual projects related to their own academic interests and offer presentations based on their course work. The goal of these activities is to not only to help students practice the skills they need for academic and professional success, but also to help them develop ongoing relationships with academic and professional members of their fields.
Cultural activities: During their visit to Atlanta, students will have opportunities to explore a broad range of cultural, educational, and social activities. These activities will draw from local attractions, including the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain Park, the Carter Center, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Atlanta History Museum, Atlanta Braves baseball games, arts festivals, the CNN Center, Independence Day (July 4) celebrations, movies, theaters, parks and natural areas, social events and receptions at private homes, and others. Students will have numerous chances to make friends, explore on their own, and enjoy the American cultural “scene”.

Living in Atlanta. Atlanta is the unofficial capital of the Southeastern U. S. and a city filled with art, culture, and the special flavor of this unique region. Students will enjoy living in a private dormitory right in the center of town, with easy access to several university campuses, public transportation, shopping, parks, museums, and more. Dormitory rooms are fully equipped as apartments, so that students can relax into living on their own, preparing meals according to their own tastes, and meeting other students from around the U.S. and the rest of the world. Health insurance, public transportation, and admission to numerous cultural sites are included in the cost of the program.

Cost: RMB 24,500 per student.

Deadline for full payment is April 15, 2008. The cost includes a non-refundable deposit of RMB 1000. Cancellations will receive a full refund, minus the deposit.
