Geoje City lies in the centre of the south coast of KyungnamSouth Gyeongsang Province, and is the second largest island in the RepulicRepublic of Korea.

There are 10 manned inhabited islands and 64 uninhabited islands. Across its coast line of 386.7㎞,

Geoje City is a beautiful island which has the longest coastline among islands on the Korean peninsula. Geoje is located 9㎞ from Gadeok Island, Busan and between Tongyeong City and New Geoje Bridge to the west. In the case of the northwest coast, Geoje sits opposite Jinhae, Masan and Goseong along Jinhae bay.

As for Geoje’s major tourist resorts, there are 14 swimming beaches including Scenic Beauty No. 2 Haegeumgang, Daebyeongdaedo Island & Sobyeonggdaedo Island, Oedo Island Botania and Hakdong Black Pearl Mongdol Beach. Moreover, cultural vestiges with a historical background are found throughout the city.

On top of that, thanks to two globally preeminent shipbuilding yards - Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. which is equipped with a 900 ton crane, the largest scale in the world, and a 1 million class dock, a scale of 8 soccer fields, and Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipbuilding yard - Geoje City’s national income per capita amounts to $34,000 US dollars.

Regarding traffic services, the national road No. 14 line starting from Ulsan is linked to the Busan~Masan~Tongyeong~Geoje Grand Bridge. A land route and marine traffic which are linked to Jeogu-ri, Nambu-myeon along east coast line of Okpo as well as Jangseungpo by going through the central part of Geoje City, are being developed. A high-speed passenger ferryship goes and returnsto and from to Jangseungpo as well as Okpo-Busan 24 times a day and runs 4 times a day to Gohyeon~Busan as well. Since the running travel time is 45 minutes or just one hour, Geoje region is a one-day travel zone.

In addition, if the Geoje~Busan road, due to be completed in 2010 or thereabouts, is openeds to traffic and an expressway between Tongyeong and Daejeon is extended to Geoje, traffic within the regions of Busan and South Gyeongsang Province Kyungnam is expected to be more harmonious.
